One kind of overworld monster that you'll run against in Elden Ring is the Tibia Mariner. It delivers a spine-tingling scene in a handful of them. To assist you in taking down the Tibia Mariner bosses that you may encounter while exploring, here is our Elden Ring guide.

In Elden Ring, the Tibia Mariner is an undead necromancer pulling a boat. It can be found in a few places with pools of water, but don't let that deceive you—it can also float across land. I battled the Tibia Mariner in Elden Ring at a few noteworthy places, as well as in another location that I won't reveal here. I will thus only address the general mechanics.
Limgrave's Tibia MarinerSummonwater Village is the first place you'll come across one, if you're simply exploring Limgrave's beginning section. It's beyond Saintsbridge in the northeastern part of Limgrave, close to the Caelid boundary. As you travel there from Saintsbridge, there's a strong possibility you'll run with D, a gregarious Incantation instructor. He will reappear in Roundtable Hall.
Regardless, this Tibia Mariner has a few noteworthy skills:
- Undead Summoning – It will call on skeletons to support it in battle (both melee and ranged types). Remember, the skeletons will reanimate after a few seconds, so you need to hit them again to put them down for good.
- Boat Crash – Your foe will sometimes cause its boat to raise then crash down on you.
- Death Explosion – The boss gathers energy in a circle before causing an explosion.
- Teleport – After a short while, it will also teleport to a new location, so just chase it down while looking out for any boneheaded fools nearby.
If you crossed the Ruin-Strewn Precipice to get to the Altus Plateau, you should be in the vicinity of the Wyndham Ruins, which are located immediately north of the Erdtree Grazing Hill campfire. As you ascend the cliffside, the Tibia Mariner will detect your presence and call for its latest ally, a Bone Giant. In addition to the previously listed skills, its Bone Giant companion will possess unique attacks.
- Get Boned! – The monstrous foe will emerge from a surface (water or land) and swipe at you twice with its hand.
- Bone Voyage – It will aim in your general direction before firing a laser for several seconds.
Since the Bone Giant is unbreakable, your primary objective should still be the Tibia Mariner. As such, you must continue pursuing your adversary and chopping away at it.
Upon conquering the Tibia Mariner in Elden Ring, the following goodies are yours:
- Skeletal Militiamen Ashes (summon) – Dropped by the variant in Summonwater Village.
- Tibia Summons (Sorcery spell) – Dropped by the variant in Altus Plateau.
- Deathroot (key item) – This is guaranteed to drop from both Tibia Mariners. This key item is used by Gurranq. You get introduced to this NPC by D as part of his personal quest. You can learn more in our Deathroot and Gurranq guide.
