While exploring Liurnia of the Lakes, one of the dungeons you'll encounter in Elden Ring is Black Knife Catacombs. This area has a few challenging areas as well as a few bosses. This is our Elden Ring guide to assist you in completing Liurnia of the Lakes' Black Knife Catacombs dungeon.

In Elden Ring, in the northeastern part of Liurnia of the Lakes, are the Black Knife Catacombs. There are two methods to go to this location:
- If you’re traveling from the south, you can get past the swamps to reach sloping paths that lead to the main road.
- If you’re coming from the north, there’s a flaming tower — Eye of Sauron style — that guards the mountain path. You can use line of sight (i.e., cliffs or rock formations) to avoid getting the madness debuff. Once you’re in the clear, tag a nearby fast travel point (Frenzied Flame Village Outskirts). Then, follow the road and loop around the ravine with the Minor Erdtree until you reach this dungeon.
- Either way, you’ll see a Holy Knight Specter in front of the entrance (as shown in the featured image). You can just avoid it, then rest in the Site of Grace inside to reset its position.
These are a few intriguing discoveries:
- If you unlock the Imp Statue dungeon, you can pick up the Rosus Axe.
- Continue further past the guillotine hallway and climb the ladder down. The sewer area has a bunch of crabs, and you can pick up a Rune Arc here. The other side is behind a barred metal gate.
You'll see a ledge at the top if you return to the guillotine hallway now. To get higher and roll to the cliff, you may ride a guillotine.
Follow the hallway until you come to a dead end. There's a boss chamber after you hit the wall with your weapon.
Black Knife Assassin is the first boss. The initial boss of Elden Ring's Black Knife Catacombs dungeon is identical to the guy we faced in Deathtouched Catacombs in Limgrave. Its fast strikes, particularly the unpleasant spins that result in a grab-and-stab motion, are to be expected.
The Assassin's Cerulean Dagger, a talisman that restores your FP and mana whenever you deliver a critical hit or stealth backstab, will be yours if you kill it. A crucial object known as the Black Knifeprint is also included. Sincerely, I haven't come across any NPC who needs this equipment.
Boss #2: Shade of the CemeteryIn any event, return to the hallway after leaving the first boss's chamber. Ghost Glovewort should be visible to you (or maybe you have already picked it up). There's an opening behind it that you may utilize to descend.
This returns you to the area behind the fence used for the sewage. Proceed to activate the second boss's chamber by pulling the lever. The metal gate may be opened by pulling on this additional lever.
Return to the original location close to the Site of Grace. You may now battle the Cemetery Shade boss in Elden Ring as the entrance should be open. You may wish to use your Spirit Ashes, which may create numerous creatures at once, to equal the odds since it already has several skeletal monsters summoned by default. This skill has the potential to annihilate the other mobs while they're reanimating or serve as a distraction for them.
In any event, be mindful of the Cemetery Shade's ethereal properties, which might cause your weapon swings to pass through. Similarly, when its head flashes green, get ready. It will shoot a goo that will momentarily immobilize you. The other mobs will wailing away at you if they are still alive. The boss will approach and try to bite you too in the meantime.
You may get the Twinsage Sorcerer Ashes (summon) by defeating the Cemetery Shade monster in the Black Knife Catacombs dungeon in Elden Ring. You may also open the chest to find a Deathroot within.
An NPC in Caelid named Gurranq uses this important item. See our Deathroot and Gurranq guide for further information.
Elden Ring may be acquired using Steam. Visit our guides and features hub for further details.
