A welcome surprise for fans of a particular dormant racing series occurred during today's Nintendo Direct. This unexpected gift came in the shape of F-Zero 99, a new battle royale game that pays homage to the classic SNES title F-Zero. It is modeled after Tetris 99 and other games with the "99" designation. Interestingly, this is the first new F-Zerorelease in over 19 years, even if it's not the comprehensive sequel that fans had hoped for. Nevertheless, a F-Zero 99 game is still a F-Zero 99 game. Fortunately, anyone with a Nintendo Switch Online subscription may play F-Zero 99 as soon as today.
The major feature of F-Zero 99's is racing with 98 other players on courses from the original F-Zero on SNES, much like previous games in the 99 series. One of the four machines from the original game—the Blue Falcon, Golden Fox, Wild Goose, and Fire Stingray—will be yours to race. You have a power meter that, in keeping with F-Zero history, will steadily drain when you collide with other competitors or the borders of the track. If it reaches zero, you will be eliminated. Of course, however, you may deliberately give up certain power meter readings in order to increase speed.
Take to the heavens,
One of the game's entirely new features is the inclusion of unique Super Spark collectibles, which surface on the course anytime two players collide. You can get access to the Skyway, a makeshift aerial route that may give you a significant advantage over rivals, if you gather enough of them. You may also acquire additional cosmetic choices in the game by accomplishing objectives.
Though I certainly can't tell for sure, it seems very likely that Nintendo intends to utilize F-Zero 99 as a means to assess interest in a new mainstream F-Zero game. I am aware that I would like a brand-new game that rivals the amazing GameCube title F-Zero GX.. Ideally, this indicates that the F-Zero 99series will continue to progress, rather than implying that we must continue to depend on other developers to satisfy our futuristic racing itch.
