Prices for used graphics cards on secondhand marketplaces are now lower than MSRP.

Thanks to increased supply, suspended tariffs, lesser demand from gamers with plenty of cash, and the long-awaited fall of cryptocurrency mining, graphics card prices have finally stabilized. There are several new graphics cards available currently that are priced at or slightly over MSRP. Similarly, the previously described circumstances have once again created favorable conditions for the secondhand graphics card market.

However, there is a little disclaimer to that statement since well-known secondhand markets like eBay first seem chaotic. Many vendors are still trying to charge exorbitant fees for both new and secondhand graphics cards. Some people are attempting to scalp new cards without realizing how drastically different the market is from 2021. Maybe some others bought their cards at huge markups and are now trying to reduce loss.

Setting a budget for a certain model is easy when you check the Newegg pricing for graphics cards. Using this information, we were able to focus on affordable costs on used graphics card marketplaces like eBay and Facebook Marketplace. It turns out that there are some good discounts available.

The profitability of mining is in steep decline.

There are many ads that imply that miners are selling off their rigs, which is probably the cause of the most recent change in the price of used graphics cards. After a quick browse over eBay, we found several ads where the graphics cards seemed to be mostly used for mining. While other merchants could have used their cards for comparable objectives, they aren't nearly as audacious as us to mention their decks of cards or mining rigs in the classifieds.

It seems like some other vendors are offering cards that were mostly utilized for productivity or gaming. This is expected given that the next graphics card generation is possibly just months away. Typically, end customers sell their cards to raise funds for a new purchase. Some could have just moved up to a better performance level.

Either way, if you filter the postings, there could be some potentially nice discounts. According to our overall research, a lot of old cards are currently selling for MSRP. However, almost every model has buy-it-now classifieds and auctions at prices far lower than MSRP. Higher rank cards have depreciated the most, according to one tendency we've seen. This is especially true for the Nvidia RTX 3090, 3080 Ti, and 3080 12GB graphics cards. Also available at reasonable prices are the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT and 6900 XT graphics cards.

All models, including the once-coveted Nvidia RTX 30 Series FE cards, have seen price segmentation. The secondhand market is one place to go if you want to get a good bargain on a FE card or one with a big heatsink and factory overclock.

A brief glance at the costs of secondhand graphics cards

We gathered up-to-date information about some of the most widely used graphics cards for PC gaming. We mostly looked through eBay listings using Newegg as a guide, but we also looked through US sales on Facebook Marketplace and verified comparable costs.

Let's begin with the RTX 30 Series from Nvidia. The RTX 3060 and 3060 Ti are still worth more than their MSRP, just as they were on the new condition market. Thankfully, this is the only instance of pricing changing. There are a few buy-it-now offerings at or close to MSRP, and you may be able to bid on something that is somewhat below MSRP. Higher performance levels are merely more affordable, so you may want to spend a little more money on an RTX 3070.

On eBay, there are a ton of used RTX 3070 buy-it-now alternatives that are either close to or slightly above the $500 MSRP. If you want to bid, you may be able to get anything for less than MSRP. Furthermore, local internet markets could have costs lower than MSRP. But for $599 at Newegg, you can easily get a brand-new Gigabyte Gaming OC variant.

With the RTX 3080, things are relatively similar in that several choices are priced at or somewhat over the $699 MSRP. You may be able to obtain one for $50–$100 less if you want to bid. Local market pricing are often terrific buys, usually hovering around MSRP.

Over the RTX 3080 pricing range, things start to become interesting. These days, both new and secondhand, the RTX 3080 12GB, 3080 Ti, and RTX 3090 retail for far less than MSRP. We identified other instances, such as the $1,200 price tag for an RTX 3090 and the $899 price tag for an RTX 3080 Ti. However, you may get a new card with comparable functionality for a little bit of money. This $790 MSI RTX 3080 10GB is one example.

The secondhand market for AMD is quite underwhelming. Many results for the 6700 XT selling for $420–$450 were found. It's definitely preferable to go with the MSI 6700 XT Mech, which is available for $485 (only $5 more than MSRP). Buy-it-now costs for the 6800 XT start at around $700, so they're not very high. The difference only decreases by around $50 if you choose to bid.

Your best option is to switch to AMD. We discovered two really nice deals: an MSI Gaming X Trio 6900 XT for $890 and a Sapphire Pulse 6600 for $290.

Avoid being duped

Just remember to consider the hazards before purchasing a secondhand graphics card as opposed to a new one. Locating a nearby listing where the seller can demonstrate that the card still functions as intended is one of the greatest options available to you. Make careful to look for any wear or visible damage. When purchasing online, be sure the vendor is reliable or at the very least ask to see a video of it in action.

Finally, to be sure the original warranty still applies to you, find out if you can get a copy of the original receipt or if there's a method to register the card with the manufacturer after you purchase it. When bought new, graphics cards are covered by a minimum two-year guarantee (three years with some manufacturers).

Finally, be sure the used graphics card you are considering is sufficiently less expensive than a new one. The prices are still falling, sometimes even on a daily basis.
